Who oversees gaming in the province
In Manitoba, gaming is regulated by the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority, or LGCA. Provincial gaming is conducted and managed by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. At a First Nations casino, that corporation is responsible for conducting and managing the games inside premises belonging to a licensed gaming operator.
The province also runs its own site for online play. Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries operates PlayNow.com, which Manitoba's regulator describes as the sole gambling site holding a Manitoba licence. In Manitoba, a person under 18 counts as a minor and cannot take part in gaming. Anyone who looks underage has to show ID to prove their age.
The regulator's caution on ads
The regulator's caution to Manitobans is plain: most gambling sites shown to them in advertising sit outside Manitoba regulation. It also says it has no way to make such a site follow Manitoba law. Seeing an advertisement does not make a gambling site legal. That warning applies equally to this guide's home-page Ad links, described below.
For a site with a Manitoba licence, the regulator's answer is PlayNow.com.
Where the guide's money comes from
This guide carries paid links only on its home page. The Ad label appears on each of them. You will see a button in the header plus two blocks: one directly below the first screen, the other close to where the page ends. All three take you to one privately run online casino, a business that pays this guide a commission. In time, another casino could replace it as that destination.
That partner holds no Manitoba licence, and it is not PlayNow.com. Nor is it connected to South Beach Casino & Resort or to the resort's Ocean Club.
Asked at the front desk
- Can you play at South Beach Casino & Resort online?
- South Beach Casino & Resort is a land-based resort with no online casino. None of its pages names one, and its games are on the casino floor in Scanterbury.
- Does the Ad-link partner have a licence from Manitoba?
- The private partner holds no Manitoba licence. Nor is it PlayNow.com, and it may change.
- What gambling site holds a licence in Manitoba?
- PlayNow.com, run by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, is the province's own legal gambling website. By the regulator's statement, no other gambling site holds a Manitoba licence.
- Do Ocean Club points carry over to online play?
- The guide's online partner has no tie to the resort or to its Ocean Club. Ocean Club points come from slot play at the resort, and the partner has no part in that.
